Media Hosting FAQ

What bitrates and video sizes can I use?

We do not limit you on frame size or bitrate, however it is worth pointing out that in order to achieve the best quality when encoding to Flash video certain frame sizes produce better quality output than others. For more information, please check our support pages.

What codecs can I stream with?

We offer full support for On2 VP6 and H.264 (video) and MP3 or AAC (audio). In order to encode to AAC, you will need to purchase the encoder from MainConcept.

Can I use custom player skins?

Custom player skin support is decided by which flash player you use. We support custom Flash players, as well as well-known players such as JW Player & FlowPlayer. For custom skin information, please check your player documentation.

What is a 'bandwidth hour'?

A bandwidth hour refers to one hour of viewing by one viewer. We use this system so that you don't have to concern yourself with streaming higher bitrates costing you more. For example, ten bandwidth hours is equivalent to ten users watching a one hour stream, or one user watching a ten hour stream.

What else do I need for Live Streaming?

You will need either a hardware encoder (example: ViewCast Niagara), or a PC running either Windows or Mac (OS). To encode a live video source, you will need a video capture card or Firewire port (for Digital Video). Encoding software is free and provided by Adobe. We recommend you use Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3.0 or higher.

What do I need to make a Flash file?

You can use any software program that is capable of exporting or converting to Flash video. Some programs that do this are:

Adobe Premiere Pro
Final Cut Pro
Quicktime Pro
